Drop spring questions

If I lower a truck using 2/4 drop springs, does this require any other adjustments or alterations? Will this adversly affect the suspension geometry?

Re: Drop spring questions

You always want to get an alignment when altering your supension like that. Make sure you get an adjustable track/panhard bar to center your rear end.

Re: Drop spring questions

^ That's correct. Your alignment will be thrown off by the lowering of the springs. Camber is affected primarily.

Re: Drop spring questions

Mark... the minimum you will need will be just that, the 2/4 drop. Check this out, these are ECE (Early Classic Enterprises) kits, and they are the best on the market IMO. Great parts and service. Either kit below will work for you, but you will need to have an alignment at your local shop.

The first kit is just their 2/4 drop; new springs and shocks:

The next kit is their 2/4 premium drop kit and adds the shock relocators and the adjustable panhard bar.

Re: Drop spring questions

I did the premium 2/4 drop on my truck, and have never had it aligned. Drives straight and tires wear perfectly.

I also completely rebuilt the front end at the same time.

Could be dumb luck, or could be paying attention to how the old parts were, measured and put all the shims back in the same places.

Who knows!?

I only have one minor complaint about the setup: The shocks are junk. Mine went bad in s few thousand miles. Could have been a bad batch, but even new, they werent great. Still looking for a better shock.

Re: Drop spring questions

Be warned, a 2/4 drop is fairly mild. Your stock suspension has likely sagged a good bit already. Installing the 2 and 4 springs probably won't net you that much drop from where it sits now. Lots of guys replace tired stock front springs with 2 inch drop ones and don't net any drop at all due to original saggy springs to start with.

Re: Drop spring questions

Kevin brought up a great point... 40 years of wear and tear will make the springs sag. Where you think a drop will put you, will not always be the case.

x2 i didn't want to make it much lower then stock so went with a 1"/2" drop and i think it actually sits a little higher
I would have gone 2"/4" but found these still new on ebay for real cheap!
