Pics of 72 trans linkage
I recently got my first 72 Chevy. I've been a 73-87 boy for a long time but have always liked the looks of the 67-72 and finally had the room and some funds for a new project.
I've got a 72 C10 custom deluxe. Originally was a 350/th350 with tilt/air/guages. According to the PO about 15 years ago it was built into a K20 350/465/205 with a 44/60and 4.56s. Now its a 350/th350/203 with 3.73s, a 4" lift and 35" BFG MTs. It has a straight but rusty body and mostly original interior and engine compartment. But it has an identity crisis. Its an auto trans with an auto tilt column, a clutch pedal, and a crappy B&M truck shifter mounted to the hack sheetmetal and pop-rivet trans hump. I would like to put it back to column shift. So I need some pics so I know what I'm looking for and what it should look like when I'm done. I've looked and these trucks are few and far between in the junkyards around here. Are these the parts I need? Any and all help is appreciated. |

Re: Pics of 72 trans linkage
I have some pictures of when I was deconstructing my 72 with sb350 / th350. I am not sure they will be of much help, but perhaps some. I would also recommend looking at the exploded diagrams on LMCtruck.com
I'll post some more as I find them

Re: Pics of 72 trans linkage
Here's a picture showing the transmission itself with the linkage on it.

Re: Pics of 72 trans linkage
I can't see them in your pic, you may have them...but you need to springs, one fits on the longer ear of the piece bolted to the trans, and the other goes over the pivot pin on the frame mounted piece. The pics dfwright submitted ought to get you headed in the right direction...they show everything you need (he is missing the spring on the frame mounted pivot...lol). I put mine together before I knew about the site, I took my parts off in the junkyard laying in the snow, about 15 degrees, and a 30 mph wind blowing...hard to pay real close attention, was hurrying to keep from freezing,

Re: Pics of 72 trans linkage
I think dfwright's pics are on a 2wd just like the set I gave you a pic of, 4x4 has a different frame bracket and different rod going up

Re: Pics of 72 trans linkage
Can I use 2wd linkage on this truck if it was originally 2wd, even though it now has a 203 behind the trans? What is the difference between a 2wd and 4x4 that causes them to use different linkage? Something on the frame?

Re: Pics of 72 trans linkage
So should I use 2wd linkage since this was originally a 2wheeler or 4x4 linkage because it now has a transfer case? Does it matter that the crossmember has been spaced down to help the driveshaft angles after the lift?

Re: Pics of 72 trans linkage
Anybody got pics of a 4x4 auto trans linkage setup? Mostly I need to know where the bracket on the frame goes.

Re: Pics of 72 trans linkage
I'd appreciate it Randy. This project of putting this thing back to column shift has been alot more work and $$$ than I anticipated.
