i couldnt really find any info searching for this, so ok this guy i know says he has a 4x4 72 blazer frame and he want to sell it minus the engine and trans for fairly cheap for a 4x4. any way can i make a pickup out of it? and or how much fab would be needed? also is there anyway i can tell its for sure a 72 blazer frame? thanks a bunch

A guy i know put a truck out of a Blazer frame by cutting down the bed. i dnt know any technical stuff or how hard it was but i do know that i can be done and looks sweet!

A 71-72 will have front disc brakes, others will have drums.

Short wheelbase is 115" and I think the blazer is 105".

I know of one of these running around town out here, If I can run him down I'll try to get the skinny on it, Its a 4WD with a 4-6in lift dark green/white, really sharp looking. He used the Blazer rear quarters to make his super shortbed, so it has the gas filler in the same place as a Blazer but it has an actual bed and cab on it, if I am making any sense...

My cousin built a 4x4 long box frame out of rear leaf spring 2wd frame and the front half of the blazer frame. I think he basically sectioned it where approximatley the middle of the cab would be. Hopefully someon will chime in on this, but i think the front blazer body mounts are in the same location as the front cab mounts on a truck.

So I guess you would wind up with a 5 foot 2 in bed? Using a blazer chassis? But wait the body bushing location wouldnt line up would they?

I made a plow using a Blazer frame. I installed rear cab mounts so the cab could be bolted to the frame and made a home made bed out of oak boards. It is really short but I need something short for plowing around my buildings.

Here is a picture of it.

If you lengthen the frame you should have any problems and I would think that would be alot easier that shortening everything else.

Depends on what you're comfortable with.

Lengthen the frame:
Weld a section to an integral structural part of the vehicle.
Lengthen the brake lines.
Lengthen the e-brake cable.
Lengthen the fuel lines.
New longer driveshaft.

Shorten the bed:
Cut a section and re-weld bedsides and floor.
Body work and paint.

I built this one out of a bunch of spare parts I had laying around in about '82 or so. This is the only picture of it that has survived. I drove it for years, this picture was taken at our local demo derby of '87. At least that's what it says on the back of the picture.

I never had the time or money to do all I wanted to it. It is a '67 cab on a '71 Blazer frame, with lots and lots of mis-matched JY bed parts. I had a nice wood flat bed on it before I built the step side. We cut the about 10" out of the middle of the bedsides, figuring that there would show the least amount of amature welding.

As far as mounting the cab, the body mount for the Blazer was exactly where it needed to be to mount the back of the cab to, but that's not strong enough and the back of the cab sagged some over the years. I think with just a little bit of re-enforcment of that mount would have solved the problem. It was a fun little truck and got a lot of second looks. I wish I hadn't sold it, but at the time I needed the money. Maybe someday I'll do another.

so ya i guess i could do some cool stuff with it if i got it but it wouldn't be bad since he is wanting to trade anyway and it wouldnt take any money for my other projects for now, god knows i have enough and i almost have the 69 on the road
