Original bench seat options 55-59
H All,
I'm no where need ready for an interior but for brake pedal and throttle distance as well as steering wheel adjustment I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a sea for my 56. The question I have is, besides the 55-59 years, is there any other years that would be a direct bolt in bench seat for my truck? I only ask because I don't see too many 55-59 bench seats come up for sale and thought I might be able to widen my search. Thanks, Sam |

Re: Original bench seat options 55-59
Well its not a direct bolt in but a few other members and myself included have used new gm suv rear row seats. I scored some second row seats from an 07 tahoe and they seem to fit reall snug in the cab. I havent installed them yet though. heres a pic of mine.
you can also check out OrrieG's thread, he used the third row suv seat |

Re: Original bench seat options 55-59
You might look at a 67/72 seat or a standard cab 88 and up bench.
That rear burb seat is nice but where you put it is where it will stay. That won't work at my house where I am 5 10 and my wife is 4 10 if we both stand up straight. I've noted that the backs on some of the later extended cab trucks lean back too much or have too much padding on the back side and take up too much space in the older cabs where a standard cab seat usually has a thinner lean back and sits up a bit more upright. Still it has to be what looks right in the truck and is the most comfortable to you so that you can feel like sitting on it for those long drives to interesting places and events. I've had 1000 mile seats in my 48 and I have had 25 mile seats in it. Meaning that I could drive all day with one seat while the other killed me after 25 miles and soon was pulled and put in the trade off stack. |

Thanks all, I still wouldn't mind looking at a regular bucket seat, just need to know if any other years have the same mounting bracket locations.
Thanks, Sam |

88-98 Chevy truck seats are supposed to work pretty well. That is what I am going to put into mine when I finish it.

Re: Original bench seat options 55-59
It sounds like your wanting a seat that will mount in the same holes as the stocker? Don't think your going to find that. We used the seats out of the 80-93 dodge full size truck. looks like the stocker, but you have to change the mounts alittle. And to make it fit better we cut them down 4". I know that's not what your looking for. But it work great for use.

Re: Original bench seat options 55-59
Update on my seat question
So yesterday a local dealer in NJ had a 56 3100 for sale, I never see these for sale by me and to find a pretty stock one at the local Chevy dealer must mean something lol. Anyway the dealer was closed but they never locked the doors to the truck so I slid in and got an idea of what I'm looking at. For the most part I can live with a stock seat, it wasn't uncomfortable except it was missing the seat cover, no big deal. So I'm set with an original, now I just need to find one lol |

Re: Original bench seat options 55-59
I used the front bench seat out of a 1990 full size chevy pickup. I made a two inch spacer to go between the base of the seat and the floor. I'm 5'11" tall and it is very comfortable for me. I'm using a lokar nostalgia shifter (mounts on top of turbo 350 trans) and I don't have any clearance issues.

Re: Original bench seat options 55-59
I had the good fortune of finding an original seat about 5 miles from my house. Fit's perfectly, needs to be blasted, painted and recovered but everythings there and in iot's current condition it's not too bad.
