Here's the problem. Drove the truck after it had been sitting for a few months while I had been working on the brakes. (brakes are great)
Parked it, then went to start it again five days later and it would not start.
Poured some gas in the carb and it started for a second then died.
Checked the filter in the Quadrajet 4 barel carb and it was pluged.
Changed the filter and still have the same problem; can pour gas in the carb and it runs for a second and dies.

Here's what I dont understand. I can break the line loose at the carb/filter and the fuel is under presure and will spray out so fuel is getting to the carb but aparently not into the carb. I checked the filter again and it's fine and in there properly. Is there something in the carb that could be totaly restricting the fuel or could it still be the manual fuel pump causing the problem???

Could be a stuck float in the carb. If the needle valve is stuck, it will not let any gas into the bowl.

Look at the obvious: Your fuel filter was plugged... with crap I can only assume. If it was that bad, then something probably got by the filter and is now running through your carb plugging things up. It sounds kind of ghetto, but when I've had these problems, I take a full can of carb cleaner and DOUCHE the living heck out of it, spraying into every little passage you can get to! Lock the throttle open (ENGINE OFF of course!) and let it dry for a while. Then fire it up (or just have someone crank it over if it won't start) and continue to spray! If it does start, you'll have to keep pumping the throttle to keep it going while you spray, but this is good because it will help pull that cleaner into more and more places.

If this little scientific process doesn't work, pull the carb and do it the right way! (Hey, at least I admit it's a ghetto process, but hey, it works sometimes!)

before pulling carb i'd take the filter out and spray some carb cleaner or wd40 in there then reassemble and give the carb body a sharp rap with a scrdriver handle to see if that would free up the float
