2wd to 4wd

ok guys I have a 86 chevy crew cab 3/4 ton. The truck is 2wd ,with 3" body lift and 33s. I wanna make it 4wd.I have found several 3/4 ton 4x4 suburbans in my area. Would the running gear"differentals,trans and t-case" fit correctly under my truck? Are the diffs the same width? Anything I should look out for?

While the motor, tranny, t-case, axles and springs will work, the spring mounts/hangers won't. The truck hangers are taller than Burb's. Talking about the rears, the fronts are the same.

a 2wd rear spring hanger sits different than a 4x4 so you either need to replace the hanger, or make up for it with lift springs. dont forget to get a 4x4 steering box, and the different cross members for the transfer case and the engine.

I'm doing this to a 89 crew cab dually. I'll try to go front to back what I used/gonna use to convert it.

Front:

Diy4x B52 kit, comes with both hangers for the front springs.

I'm going with crossover steering, so need the 2wd steering box. If your not going crossover, you will need a 4wd box. Try to get a box of the same year, at least within a couple years so the lines will bolt on. Can't remember what years, but they changed the ends around and won't interchange.

The engine crossmember is still undecided yet. A 4wd crossmember won't fit, so gonna need to make something.

Front springs are junkyard 4" that I had from another truck.

Going with a divorced transfer case, so right now don't need to change the tranny crossmember. I might have to notch it to clear the front driveshaft, but won't know that till I get it all in there.

The rear suspension was probly the easiest. Since truck was a 2wd, the spring hangers were too short. Could use more lift, but would need at least 3" to make it match the front.

I used 1/2-3/4 4wd front hangers, and 1/2 2wd hangers for a homemade shackle flip. I used a 14ff from G30 van, needed the perches moved anyways, one of the reasons why I used those hangers, but the main reason is I already had them.
