Readend saddle change

I have a 12 bolt rearend on my 63 with 6 lug axles trailing arm/coil suspension. On my 79 donor truck i have a 12 bolt rearend (littlebit wider) with leaf springs.

The question is has anyone here cut off thesaddles and panhard bar mount from a complete rear end and transfered them to another axle. Is this possible or not recommended. Do i have to buy new saddles and mount.

Thoughts/examples/ picture?

Re: Readend saddle change

yeah its not that big of a deal. you can get a cheap angle finder and mesasure your 66 axle. then weld the saddles onto the 79 at the same angle.

Yeah, it's not too difficult to do. You just need to make sure your pinion angle is correct.

I've done it a few times. Recently, I did one for a 63 I am building. There are pictures in my blog.

Re: Readend saddle change

I'm at work right now and Photobucket and my blog are both locked out of these computers. I will post my pictures tomorrow when I get home to my computer.

All I do it cut the brackets and saddles off the axle tubes, set it into place on the new ECE saddles, center, set pinion angle and weld them on. Nothing to it.

Roadhammer, here are the pictures. It's an 80 model rearend. I ground all of the old brackets and spring pads off then welded the ECE saddles into place.
