Wink sway bar

HEY MEMBERS, BEEN AWAY FOR A WHILE AND WORKING TOO MUCH. I DID FIND TIME TO INSTALL A FRONT SWAY BAR THIS PAST WEEKEND. LOVE THE RESULTS, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS UPGRADE.

OK, I am interested, give us the details! Did you install a new "out of the box" sway bar kit, if so who is the dealer/manufacturer? Was it a junk yard find, if so what is the donor vehicle? I have heard good things from many board members on installing a front sway bar on these old trucks. I don't want to be the last one on the block to put one on! Sounds like Iam goin to have to do it, just to keep up with you guys!

IT WAS FROM A DONOR TRUCK. I PURCHASED IT FROM AN INDIVIDUAL NOT SURE WHAT MODEL. IT WAS AN EASY INSTALL, JUST HAD TO DRILL OUT TWO RIVITS AND BOLT ON. I ALSO USED NEW BUSHINGS. BIG DIFFERENCE IN HANDLING FOR ONLY $35.

I have a 1 1/8" sway bar from a late 70's chevy and picked it up for only $20 at the local yard, and that included all the hardeware

I did that same thing a couple of weeks ago-highly recommend it too! I bought the front brackets from the local Chevy dealer for under $10 each, then pulled a 1 1/8" sway bar/clamps/bolts from a mid 80's Suburban for another $10. I used the original bushings, but have ordered new replacements.
It is an easy mod with very noticeable results. I can now go around a corner and not worry about scraping my mirrors on the pavement!

I also used a 1 1/8 in bar from a donor truck but I mounted it on lowered brackets and polygraphite bushings from Early Classic.

SideStepper,
Donor trucks would be 67 to 87, Suburbans would be 67 to 91 (I think that is the right year). Bigger bars are available on heavier vehicles and as optional equipment on those years.

I just did it two weeks ago too...1 1/4" bar made a huge difference. New Poly bushings, the hardest part were the damn rivets, other than that, its was amazingly easy, even while laying on the ground in the dirt.

It's definitely worth the time. I should have installed mine a long time ago, but better late than never.
