Tire Air Pressure for 275/60/15
Hey guys, I wanted to see what you typically run for air pressure with a 275/60/15 on a stock 8" rally wheel. I have been running 30-32 lbs but they seem to be wearing more in the middle. Where should I be at for even wear?

Re: Tire Air Pressure for 275/60/15
i have the same size tire on some 8" wheels and i run 35psi. it is true that if you see the tire wearing more in the middle than on the sides it means they are over inflated but that seems highly unlikely that you are getting this type of wear pattern from 30-32psi. maybe your gauge is faulty?

Re: Tire Air Pressure for 275/60/15
I inflated my BFG Radial T/A's of these size to 35 PSI which is the max. They did seem to wear out more in the center on the rear. I think this is because there's not enough of a load to flatten out the tire at this pressure. It's probably just something you will have to experiment with.

Re: Tire Air Pressure for 275/60/15
This is somehting that I learned a few years back. Many tires with a soft rubber compound will balloon as you drive and wear in the middle. If you go with a tire that has a harder compound the wear will diminish.
I have found that the Cooper brand tires and the Mastercraft brand (made by Cooper) will last longer than the Goodyear or BFGoodrich tires. Just a matter of fact. I run my tires at 35 psi, so that I get the maximum out of my gas mileage and I also get reasonable tire mileage. I am presently running a Nitto brand tire on my trucks, but the winter tires are Mastercraft's. It is hard to beat them.

Re: Tire Air Pressure for 275/60/15
If the tire is wearing in the middle, especially if it is more prevalent on the rear tires, reduce the tire pressure by 2-4 psi. This is typically the case with a tire that is "pushing" the limits of the wheel width and a light vehicle weight (i.e. the rear of a empty pick up).

Re: Tire Air Pressure for 275/60/15
I use Coopers on all of my cars and have never had a wear problem. My truck will need new tires and I am going to the Coopers. Mine is a dump truck and I never thought about the psi and weight issue. It would be interesting to hear the follow-up.
