Re: Frame cracks?
ORD makes a steering reinforcement bracket. I would drill the crack, weld it up and look into the ORD kit.
these are meant for 4WD but I bet you can make it work... or fab something like it. http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/steeringkit.htm

Re: Frame cracks?
Pretty common place for them to crack. I dig the crack out with a grinding wheel and weld it back up.

If you want more insurance throw a fish plate on and weld it as well.

Re: Frame cracks?
Here in Texas it was real common to run 10 inch wide wheels and 295/50s on all 4 corners. I did it myself a few years. I've always blamed that kind of setup on cracking frames behind the box.

Re: Frame cracks?
I rocked a Mullet all the way down to my belt in the back. I also drove a 78 Z28 Camaro and listened to Guns and Roses on a Sparkomatic cassette deck with 6x9s in the rear package tray. I was Joe Dirt before Hollywood ever had the idea.

When repairing a crack I have learned the way to do it is to drill a hole at the end of the crack. Then weld the hole & crack. |

Re: Frame cracks?
+1 on drilling the hole at the end of the crack also known as "stop drilling", that helps keep the crack from starting over again after it is welded up. I'd vee the crack out a bit with the grinder as TXFF said he does to get a good weld on it too.

Re: Frame cracks?
