** project: 68 chev longbed **
A bit of background:
I am a University student going to school full time and drive a 06 bmw as a daily driver. I have no mechanical knowledge but only the love of hot rods, classic cars... My first crush (62 impala).. finding that here in toronto didnt go so well, but then i came across this... Project: I picked up a 68 chevy longbed from an old couple about an hour away from where i live. I live by the city and trucks like this are very rare, or any classic rides for that matter. 68 (the cab is of a 67 b/c of the small window..) 305 small block (runs) 350 turbo tranny Dual cherry bombs Has everything the truck should be coming with.. i dont know what else to explain about this truck.. It has the usual rust (cab corners are shot), door bottoms, one fenders gone,.. Overview I have been dividing my time between this truck and school but i have got some work done. I have taken off the bed, rust coated the frame, Changed shoes and drums all around (replaced master cylinder), ripped off the doors, fenders, hood and interior and primered it. Future Plans (SUGGESTIONS WANTED! ) Paint it red? or black? Cowl induction hood (black) Maybe just maybee 350 small block? Manual tranny Reupholester seats Cleanup the rust and crap Get a phantom grille Door poppers My goal here is not to make a restored classic but rather a sport truck sort of like a street truck for a weekend cruiser.. I will attach pics and any help or suggestions will be appreciated! |

Re: ** project: 68 chev longbed **
Instead of getting the chrome bezels around the grille i am tihnking about just filling them in and makin them smooth (filling the chrome trim holes and stuff..)
Also! does anyone know how the wood floor is connected to the bed? from what i see its connected to the wheel covers in the bed(which i wanted to get rid of) Is there another way to get a woodfloor and connect it to the bed? |

Not at all.
Just need to keep us all updated with more details. You have a very good start on yours. Mine was horrible on body work which has taken the most time to get corrected. As we are still working out on the cab cancer and almost to the point of getting it all patched up. So my suggestion to you if you want more travel to your build is just to keep up with all the detailed information and add it here. That way you share you progress and others will chime in as you continue your progress. Good luck!

Ha
my thread(aka sin) is pretty dull ha i think people want to see major mods! then they get pumped or just a really nice truck. then there like progress. But your build is looking like its coming along. how did that front fender fit? i have to pick up a pair for my truck im worried about buying a repop though

Re: ** project: 68 chev longbed **
The fender fit really well actually, i picked it up for 200 bucks from a local guy, BillsTruckShop, really nice guy.. I even took the truck for a spin around the block without the door on a milk carton b/c i had never driven it since i got the truck i ripped it apart as soon as i got it.
Heres a pic of some seats i pulled out of a older Chevy Astro van the third row seats... Both chairs have double arrmrests haha And the armrest with the cupholders b b ballin!! lol either im going to reupholster these or get new ones in leather, this is not bad thou.. Anyone want my original seat ( In Ontario, Canada??) |

Re: ** project: 68 chev longbed **
Is it just me or does that frame look twisted at the back? The box sure doesn't seem to be sitting level, looks like its twisted on the diagonal? Might it have been in an accident at some time?
