Buying a burb and have some questions
So I have found a few and I currently have a 72 2wd blazer so Im familiar with all the little stuff. Problem is I found a deal on this and Im really concerned about the one body damage it has.....
Drivers side lower door and cab. Anyone had to fix xsomething like that? Also anything better or worse about a 67 burb over a 72 burb? Other then drum 6 lug. THings like that?> ANy interior differences?? LAst question. Is it easier to swap out a 4 speed 6 cylinder to a auto v8 or a 8lug truck to a lowered 5 lug? |

There are a few upgrades for the 72. Disk brakes, the better 205 transfer case, front dashboard a/c. There are more, help me out guys.,
open knuckle front differential .....

Most are what you mentioned. Body shells are the same. Grilles and hood are different. Mostly cosmetic on the body.
Running gear wise exactly what you said, better t-case, open knuckle front axle with disc brakes. They would both have the same 12 bolt rear axle if 1/2 ton or eaton if 3/4 ton. If it was me I would pick the one with the best body. All the driveline stuff is easy to swap in. If your not handy mechanically then buy the 72, it has the better front axle and t-case which are more plentiful from a replacement part standpoint. My personal opinion is it is easier to swap an engine and transmission than convert an eight lug to a 5 lug. 8 lug to 5 lug requires a lower control arm change to the smaller 5 lug ball joints and you have to go to smaller u joints at the rear axle as well. A six cylinder 4 speed to V8/auto will require V8 motor mounts and a trans crossmember, plus change the front of the driveshft from a u joint to a slip yoke. The six/4spd will have a bell housing crossmember to support the transmission, for the auto you need a tailshaft crossmember. Last edited by justcuz; 11-15-2009 at 12:59 PM. i thought 4x4 was high and slow and 2wd was lower (than 4wd) and fast (as in street driving, not rock crawling). my 72 burb 3/4 ton has plenty of ground clearance like a truck should for going on the occasional back road, hauling big trailers etc. but it is low enough to the ground to get in and out without a step ladder and can hold corners (with sway bars) and not catch too much air to drive at highway speeds. in short, stock 2wd ride height looks good and is the best compromise.

Okay so here we are. a original green 72 350 4 speed witht he jacked up door for 1400$
The 67 with no real body damage no interior 6 cylinder 4 banger with old beat up aftermarket paint for 1200$ or the 72 2500 big block turbo 400 original yellow paint with rusty rockers and a fender |

For me it would be the third choice. rockers are a pretty easy fix, and a fender is a bolt on part. Sometime if you are looking to purchase, check for the repairs needed, calculate what you think it might cost to do the repairs and upgrades that you want to do and add it to the price of the vehicle. Then shop around and see if you can find a better deal in the price range that you are considering spending combined. Generally its cheaper to buy a little better truck needing less repairs. There are lots of trucks around. I'm back east and still, including shipping, I find it cheaper to purchase my vehicles where you already live due to the saving of rust repairs needed, and end up with a more valuable vehicle for the same $$$, even with the shipping. You already have a real advantage living where you do. There is a suburban on the for sale section for $6000? You could never come close to building that truck for that price.

Wow that is funny i just got off the phone from a guy about 10 hrs from me with an awsome truck. Body work done motor done wheels done. For another grand..... Sound like I need to reach a little bit mre into my pockets to save myself some money here in the future... ONly problem is NO interior. Guess I better start searching the boards for some seats.

It has been for sale for awhile and a lot of people said they wanted it but no takers and the wife said it had to get out of the driveway. It is for sale for 900.00 with a posi rear end, 5 lug disc brkaes and a pretty clean body with all 3 doors, tailgate and liftgate with a clean title. Lots fo clean Suburbans around here and with the economy no one wants a project so I guess it will be used for donor parts which are hard to find for Suburbans.
