Do these wear out much? what happens when they do?

The rubber deteriorates over time with exposure to heat, oil, etc. It can cause slop in your steering when it gets worn. I just rebuilt mine. Cheap and easy. Click on my build link for pics/description. I also replaced the input (steering) shaft seal, and output (pitman) shaft seal on the power steering box at the same time.

You can purchase a complete ragjoint if the splines are worn on your original for around $50, or just replace the rubber disc for around $10 with a rebuild kit from a parts store.

Ill be sure to check mine out and see what she looks like. My steering is not precise but it definitely is not very sloppy. Seems as though it is just worn.

I used the parts store rebuild kit and it has lasted over 15 years. Not hard to do. Saves you some cash versus buying an all new joint.
