Honestly, it won't matter. I've seen 290hp 350's destroy V8 T5's. They're notoriously weak. Even a "World Class" Mustang T5's won't live long behind a torquey small block. All that said, yes yours is a V8 T5.

Here's your id guide.

Re: Need help t-5 5 speed trans

I have personal experience with those weak tranny's. had one in my 66 short step side with a 350hp small block. the trans went out in two months. these trucks are to heavy and as stated above 290hp or up and they crumble.

Behind a 400 in a truck it won't last a week.

GM wouldn't even allow you to order the TPI 350 with the T-5. It is just plain a weak trans.

I went through a pile of T-5's in my 83 Z/28 and it only weighed 3400 pounds and had a mild 305. Now imagine the torque of a 400 and a 4000+ pound truck.

It will not have the 400 in it but worse I have a very strong 355 I had built for my 2wd 81 blazer I was thinking t-5 instead of th400 than put 4.56 in the rear and not the 3.73/4.11 I want

I would sell it and find a T-56. They are rated for about 425 hp from the factory depending upon which vintage you get and have the aftermarket support to make them live in 9-second drag cars and 600+ hp Vipers so it should work great in your Blazer.

The double overdrive is pretty nice too. My 98 Camaro had the T-56. After I put in 4.10 gears I was still only at 1900 RPM at 70 mph in 6th with tires that were under 26" tall.

Re: Need help t-5 5 speed trans

Wow, I knew these weren't the strongest transmissions, but I didn't know they were that bad. I'm glad I decided not to use one behind my 4.3. I was afraid this might happen and I would be out the cost of the clutch and flywheel.
