New brake hoses.

So much for a disc brake conversion. Everything was new or rebuild but spindles. About 1000 miles on this set up. I got real lucky this happend in my driveway after a short run to test trans shifting after modifying th400 governor. I don't want any braided stuff on my 69 but looks like i'll have to go with braided hoses.

Re: New brake hoses.

Those rubber brake lines are the most overlooked things IMO when people redo their brakes... I'm glad you didn't experience that failure while trying to stop at speed on the streets.

I don't care for the braided hoses, mainly because I want everything to look OEM. So I went to my local "Hose man" that fabs up all kinds of industrial hose and fittings, and brought in my old stuff and had them make up 2" longer replacements with correct rubber brake hose. Since the OEM's I think are too short for my burb.

EDIT: I just noticed you are in SoCal... Here is the shop I went to for my work.

Re: New brake hoses.

That was a new hose that broke?
What exactly happened?

I've seen old dry rotted hoses that are still working.

Re: New brake hoses.

Yes, new hose. It had a 3 month warranty. I called summit with no luck. I'll try an inline tube tomorrow.

Re: New brake hoses.

Did the hose rupture or is it leaking at a fitting?

Re: New brake hoses.

Auto Zone shows universal Stainless hoses on their web site.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...s&pageNumber=1

And if you go to Russell's web site they show them available in black so they blend in more if thats what you are going for.

Re: New brake hoses.

When you did the conversion, did you reroute the hard lines to the proper locations on the frame for disc brakes? If you left them in the same location as the drum brakes, when you attach the hoses they will bind or over extend and tear.

That's exactly what he did. Notice the brake hoses are going to the back of the crossmember. On all factory disc brake trucks from 71 and newer, the brake hoses go to the front of the crossmember. He converted to discs and reused the old drum brake line mounting spot, putting the hose in an awkward installation.

My disc brake swap on my '69 uses ECE's conversion brake hoses. They work fine in the original drum brake "steel line" location.

Re: New brake hoses.

I was using the ECE disk brake lines in the stock location. Now i had some made at a Brakequip dealer. They are still in the stock locations but i am using a different banjo to reduce the stretch and strain on the hose.

Its actually cheaper to have some made at a brakquip dealer than to buy from russell or summit.

We are in the auto parts business and we tell that to people all the time. Seems like people do not believe us most of the time. If their is no dealer close it makes sense but why spend more?
