anyone ever install a aftermarket under dash ac system in the past?

i have a old ac system laying around i want to put in my 70. i just want to make sure it is complete it has the underdash unit wich has the evaporator and the dryer atached, compressor, condenser, and lines. i just am wondering is something is supposed to hook up between the unit and the compressor to make it turn on and off. the back of the dash unit has 2 wires one i know is power and the other i would think needs to hook to the compressor but when i hook it up colts drop to 0. is it cause there is no freon in there?

If you can send me pictures of your unit with wiring and switches, I can help you with the install.
