double pulley
I have a double crank pulley on my 67 250 ci w/manual steering. I was wondering if it is there for power steering? Thanks for any help.

Re: double pulley
Do you actually have a pulley ? Most inline engines just use a harmonic balancer with either one or two belt grooves.

Re: double pulley
It's probably what you say, it has 2 grooves.

Re: double pulley
What is the 2nd groove used for? I'm looking into putting power steering on it & am trying to figure out what I need. I've looked at alot of pix of 250 cis on here & have seen some differences in the way they are mounted. Where is the pump supposed to be mounted? Also do I have to change my alternator pulley? Thanks for any help or pix.

Re: double pulley
Somewhere in the 70's Chevy increased the spacing between the grooves on the harmonic balancer/pulleys on the inline 6. I discovered this when I obtained my PS setup from a 79 passenger car. The space between the grooves on the balancer & the space between the grooves on the pulley are distinctly different. I still just installed it all & despite the slight misalignment, I still have yet to throw a belt. In hindsight, I should have gotten the the balancer from the donour.
However, if you can get a PS setup from a donour from a pre-wide spacing year vehicle, you are laughing. The pump bracket attaches to the head on the front & top, has a "leg" that runs down behind the alternator to the block, and the pump bracket also has a slot where the alternator bolts to for adjustment. You need not change the alternator pulley.
