What size of metal for frame building???
Im thinking of redoing the back side of my truck with a handbuilt frame that will allow the stock two link to travel through the notched area so it will lay down all the way. What kind/size of metal are you guys using to fab up your frames with? Any pics? Thanks...

Re: What size of metal for frame building???
most people, myself included use 2x4 1/8" wall. 3/16 is overkill and is alot of added weight. All chassis company (that ive seen) use 1/8" wall box tube as well.

Re: What size of metal for frame building???
1/8" 2x4" box tube weighs 2.6 lbs/ft
3/16" 2x4" box tube weighs 5.1 lbs/ft 1/4" 2x4" box tube weighs 7.7 lbs/ft Now on a half ton, 1/8" should be strong enough for anything you need to do, if it were a 1 ton id say go 3/16" Stock frames are 3/16" C channel, 1/8" 2x4 box tube is stronger than 1/4" 4" C channel.

Re: What size of metal for frame building???
Cool, thanks guys, yeah zing the back with stock rails would be easier but I want to build it up like I want it, I already have a SD notch with bags over axle but I am going to build it up to carry the bags on the stock two link and make room for arms to travel within the rails and add for the air tank etc...Ill post pics up when I get it going, thanks again!
