Unhappy cat laws in cali

we are moving to San Diego from Maine sometime in july 2010 what will i have to do with my 78 concerning catS, emissions extra!!!!

you have to smog all gasoline engines in California that are newer than 1975. There is an emmisions "sniffer" test and a visual test. you must have all pollution-control devices in tact

You will probably have to see a referee with your engine swap then it'll get all retarded if you dont have the correct tranny and all kind of stupid junk like that. It may turn into a major hassle. Welcome to cali...

trust me, this is not the 1st time I've heard people contemplating a cab swap. I've parted out 2 trucks due to not being able to smog. and I had to give up a free truck because it came from Oregon and wouldn't pass. I knew a guy that registered his truck through his parent's address in a county that DID NOT smog check. BRILLIANT!

Most everything newer than '75 had cats on 'em and the percentage of pre '75 vehicles still registered are very low. BTW thats exactly why my '77 heavy half got crushed after i gutted it and built a '73...
