Question window channel rubber

I have 72 Chevy long bed, I am replacing the rubber in the window channels and was wondering how to do so without breaking the glass. The glass seems pretty strong but the new rubber in the channel does not want to slide on and when using a rubber hammer to drive it on it does not go on all the way down and I do not know how hard I can hit it.

Just got the truck back from pint and I am putting it all back together. Also putting on the side mirrors, does it matter where they are on the door? I was thinking just behind the side post to the vent window. I am putting the small square ones on, I like the way they look.
Thanks for the help!

Re: window channel rubber

I started from the bottom and it went in pretty easily. IIRC

Re: window channel rubber

Are you talking about the "U" shaped rubber that goes along the back and top of the door frame or the rubber and felt "scrapers" that go on the inside and outside of the door @ the bottom of the window?

If it's the former- it should just press into the channel, but it's best to do this with the glass out of the door, because the channel extends down inside the door.
If its the scrapers you're trying to get in- you shouldn't need more than a couple taps with a rubber hammer. If yours are anything like mine were- you'll need a moderate amount of patience to get them in.

A. Make sure the windows are rolled down.
B. Line up the all the clips with the slots on the inside of the rolled door edge where they mount.
C. Gently press or tap into place.

Re: window channel rubber

I am talking about the channel the window rides in up and down on the bottom of the window.

I bought the rubber channel from LMC. It is almost twice as long as the channel and when I put it in and then try to put window in it is very tight and I do not want to break the glass.

Here is a picture.

Re: window channel rubber

Are you talking about the rubber that runs from the vent window to the bottom of the inside of the window down below the door locks and striker? If so heres a link:http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticl.../photo_13.html

I 've been there and had problems too

Re: window channel rubber

Does the window metal channel on the bottom of the window have a rubber or does it get glued in with something. The picture in the post above shows the window in the channel and I did not see a rubber seal so is it glued in with something without a rubber seal??

That is what I am trying to get together the window and the bottom metal channel.

Re: window channel rubber

The metal channel is glue to the glass. and the round rollers from the regulator go into the track, the link shows you crank it all the way up for the rollers and wide spots to line up.

Re: window channel rubber

What type of glue do I use?

How do I align the windows so they roll up and down correctly after they are glued?

I called LMC and they could not answer and did not know about the rubber seal I bought for the channel. This seems to be a tough question.

Re: window channel rubber

If you are talking about the window channel you have to use the setting tape to install on the glass and then install the channel on the glass. You will have to pound the channel onto the glass using the tape. I just had mine done at the house by a retired glass guy and he makes it look easy.

Re: window channel rubber

Setting tape comes in different thicknesses. You may need to try some thinner stuff. The only way I have ever done it is by beating it on with a hammer.
