High Hump or Low Hump

I just got my high hump cab back from the body shop and before getting started putting it back together, I am considering changing the high hump to a low hump. My question is twofold: 1) what is involved in changing it over and, 2) what are the pros and cons to each? Thanks. Joel

Personally, I'd leave it as it is. Not too many of those and once you carpet it you can add a conosole or some other component on top of it.

If you really want to get it out, you'll have to do some cutting and welding. You'll have to find an old discraded low hump cab that you can cut a carfully measured section out of or order you a floor pan. Either way it will involve a lot of work.

Re: High Hump or Low Hump

I like the high hump personally, I can place my right foot on there and then lean my elbow onto my knee, kinda move around a bit on a long drive. (throttle with my left foot when doing this)
To swap over, you'll need to cut the low hump out of a low hump cab, and either make it into a bolt in piece, or weld it in place on your floor.
The only pro of the high hump is room for a larger trans, and more air flowing around it. Even though you can fir a big block and a TH400 under a low hump, the added space for air flow helps keep the temps down on the inside floorboard. My low hump caddy425/TH350 which has less than an inch of room in places, will warm up my (uninsulated) inside floor to over 100 degrees on the freeway in the summer. (checked with an infared non contact radac gun)
Seems more people like the small hump, I personally like the high hump myself.

A con to changing it over will be you're going to screw up a lot of fresh paint doing it.

Re: High Hump or Low Hump

67Cheby,
Here is where it sits for now.....18* degrees for the next 5 days so its' just going to have to sit for now. I have a lot of things to do that I can do in the basement such as put together gauge cluster, clean wiring harness etc. I keep telling myself its' a journey not a destination!

Actually, my longhorn has it... factory option. Most of the parts are there too. That's been one of the things I've wanted to fix since for ever.

Re: High Hump or Low Hump

Not worth the work to convert in my opinion.

I cut out my low hump for tranny clearance.

Re: High Hump or Low Hump

I kinda dig the high hump. It will be easier to fab up a console between the seats, plus as LHM sez...it provides a bit more airflow around the tranny.

Re: High Hump or Low Hump

I agree with the others Joel, you're too far along to change it now!

I got your email, and didn't respond right away, so I forgot. But I've got my eyes open for a bed for ya.
