Question Tach Question.......

How hard is it to install a factory tach in a factory non tach dash on a '71? Can this be done without replacing or changing the circuit board and back plate? I only have the tach and the inst. lens. Thanks for your help, Shawn

You need the printed circuit board, the inner black tin with the proper tach hole punched in, and the outer backing tin that is cut out specifically for the tach. Trevor

I ordered the printed circuit but I think I wil try to cut the back plate my self. They only sell the back plates in a kit that is 350.00. Hopefully I can make this work. Shawn

Shawn check with ECE (www.earlyclassic.com) they actually sell the front/rear tins for $40.

I made my own hole and used a tach printed circuit.
The tach is a cheapo I bought at checkers over the counter. I pulled the front of the case off and installed the rest in my dash.

To make it easier to remove my dash bezel - which I just did this past weekend - I used a 4-wire flat trailer connector behind the bezel for the tach. 4 wires for 12V + and -, tach signal, and dash lights. Now to remove my bezel I do all the usual stuff (oil line, wiper nob, headlight switch, speedo, shift fiber optic) then I disconnect the 4-wire trailer connector and remove my dash bezel.

Works for me.

Speaking of dash restoration/upgrade, what is the latest thinking on new bezels?
I obviously could use a new one. I know NOS ones are out there floating around but are expen$ive.

Who supplies the best re-pop out there?
