help me with my turnsignals
hey all, as some of you might have read in the general discussion board, i was hit by a drunk driver on thanksgiving evening. well my car is totalled, which leaves my 63 as my daily driver for the time being. well i havent got all the loose ends tied such as the turn signals, and heater. well i bought a universal turn signal lever to install on my truck. the original is messed up and i need to take the column apart to fix that. ive never touched one before so i just need a temporary fix to keep it safe. well my question is, how do i hook it up? im in no way electrically inclined so i would appreciate a step by step if possible. i gotta drive her to school and on the freeway, so i want to make sure that they work, because there is fog some times and i want to avoid any accidents. thank you in advance.

Re: help me with my turnsignals
OK you need some connectors , a test light and a helper or a mirror on a stand
First find the hot wire from the trucks harness, I am guessing you can cut the wires above the connector since you will probabbly replace the switch in the column some time . The replacement should have instructions with it I hope. Hook the hot wire (key on) to to the wire marked flasher there should be a wire that powers up when you step on the brake hook that to brake power try this stuff and post back and I will walk you through the rest

Re: help me with my turnsignals
I would not just cut all the wires. The horn wire is also in that connector. Also remember that the front and rear turn signals are seperates. The easiest thing to do is use the test light. Also remember the brake lights also go through the turn signal switch.

Re: help me with my turnsignals
so i have never used a test light what do i do? connect it it to the end of the connector and see if theres juice? also does anybody know the color coding? my truck is a 63 c10 and there are color coded wires, it would be easier to spice.

Re: help me with my turnsignals
Quote:
see the wire by it's self that is the horn , don't cut it ground the test light , check it for power at the fuse box try a bat terminal the light should light,if so push the brake pedal the wire should be green, power should light test light, release pedal wire should not light tester. Next turn on the key test for a hot wire if you don't find one retest the green by stepping on the brake (to make sure the test light works. Now DO these things and post back. I just looked at your pics Idon't see a flasher at the bottom of the fuse box if you don't have a flasher only the brake lights can work

Re: help me with my turnsignals
ok so today i used the test light, and i found that this white wire lights up the test light when the brake is applied.so i spliced the red wire that says flasher to it. i tested the rest of the wires in that harness, and i couldnt find a hot wire that was key on hot. so i figure i can run the power to the junction box where it says ignition unfused. i have an inline fuse from there. so at this point i dont know what to do. i couldnt get it to get power, should it be grounded to work? like i said im still learning

Re: help me with my turnsignals
The red wire does not hook to the white . look at your fuse box see the bottom right 2 female wire tab holes, the signal flasher goes there one should be powered (key on , the other feeds the signal switch this may be all that is wrong with your signals, BTW it's hard to help you if you don' t stick with it
