70 suspension upgrade
planning on upgrading the suspension on my 70 c-10 (its a 6 bolt) with no PS or PB. I just found a 86 complete truck today for like $200bucks befoe it goes to the crusher. Can I just swap out the crossmember and then use the 86 suspension and brakes? I've read alot on here and been contimplating the best way to get ps/ pb 5bolt etc. Should I buy the 86 and start swapping the crossmember and suspension? thanks

Re: 70 suspension upgrade
I did the same thing with an '81 front suspension on my '69.
I replaced all the bushings while I was at it. I gained power disk brakes, power steering and a sway bar. I had to make one of the existing holes a little bigger and drill one new hole to get the cross member in. I also used the rear axle to keep the same bolt pattern but that took a little more work. I think this is a reasonable low cost upgrade. TW |

Re: 70 suspension upgrade
You can also replace everything except the crossmember itself. All the later model parts will bolt on your existing crossmember.
This is a good time to rebuild the a-arms and steering.
