It'll be hit and miss. Alot of the wreckers here are just that. Park it, let people strip it, once nothings happening, crush it. In LA, you'll just have to show up and look.

Yeah, that's about it. When you're in Los Angeles, check out Sun Valley (in the San Fernando Valley). There are some good junk yards off of Glenoaks Blvd and Tuxford Ave. Also, go to Long Beach and check out Memory Lane. You can call them before you go and they can tell you if they have anything close to what you're looking for.

Re: coming to CALI!

You would probably have better luck over in the Valley and in the desert, where there's less traffic for part hunters. There's a junkyard here in Santa Maria with 3 or 4 complete trucks, but that's about it around here.

Re: coming to CALI!

There's a number of Pick-A-Parts and Ecology Wrecking yards all over LA. Alpha St in Duarte also has about 15 yards in one 1/4 mile stretch. It's going to be hit and miss. Some of the yards have a web-based parts locater to identify which yard has the parts you need. Best call around first before window shopping.

Re: coming to CALI!

I've been to Memory Lane and they are not cheap. I thought they were in Sun Valley? The self service yards don't have anything with small parts left on them. Might be able to find some body parts but that's usually all that is left after being picked over. I remember the days when our trucks filled the yards with no takers but no more.

Re: coming to CALI!

All of the small parts have been stripped in the yards around here. You won't have a problem finding good sheet metal though. Whole trucks are usually the best deal.

Memory Lane packed up and moved about 5 years ago. REALLY disappointing for us valley folks.

Well, I guess I've been away from that area for longer than I thought. They have some great stuff, just wish their prices were better. I wonder how they moved all those cars and trucks they had.

Re: coming to CALI!

I don't know if their still in business but "All Chevy" in Susiun City (1/2 hour from SF) had about a million of our trucks in their yard. I bought a perfect used hood from them for $75.00. Admittedly it was awhile back though.
