no im not trying to say its a dumb idea.its a realy good one seeing that your saddle broke.do it lock at the top?

Ive never had a problem filling up but i did have a problem putting octane booster in but i solved that one

I have the same problem on both tanks on my 77. Luckily there is 1 station in town that doesn't have the vapor stuff so I get no drips.
