What is this?

Hey guys, I was looking for the build sheet for my 70 c20 pickup which I have heard is usually in the springs on the back of the bench seat and I found this. Its a piece of metal clipped to the back of my seat. It has numbers and a date punched into it.
This is what is on it:
3954797
CADIZ 11-24-69

I was wondering if the date could be the build date of my truck? I have no idea what this is and thought I would call on the knowledge of my fellow truck guys on this forum to help me figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would bet that that is the day your seat was put together. Think of the logistics, you wouldn't want to pay a guy to stop the line to attach a dated stamp to the back of the seat just to record what day it is.

Thats probly right. I figured if they took the time to tuck the build sheet behind the seat that it wouldn't be much of a stretch for this to have something to do with the build date but I dont know.

Any other ideas what this is?

It may be a sequence number that matches the seat to the actual vehicle on the production line. The operator in the cushon room wouldn't have had to "stop the line" it would have just been another step in his operation. And it would have been worth it money wise to insure the right seat went into the right truck and not have had a mis-build or a bunch of seats out of sequence. I didn't work there at the time and all the seats we installed were built by an outside vendor so I may be all wet but its just a thought.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the info. I was hoping to find the build sheet behind the seat but it seems that it is long gone.
Anyone else find something like this on the back of their seat?

I have seen a few of them. I believe they are a way of ID the vendor who supplied them.
