Bought an 87, already looks lowered...

I bought a 1987 R10 with the 4.3 tbi which i have swapped out for a 355 carb'd. ever since i bought the truck i have got numerous comments and questions about it being lowered but it was a old work truck that was just repainted and nothing else. all suspension parts are factory i believe someone give me some hints

Those pics were taken with the v6 in it. so the v8 has nothing to do with it

The front looks fine other than the tires maybe a little shorter than stock. Maybe your rear leaf springs are well worn?

Not sure exactly, but I could see someone removing a leaf or two or doing a rear drop in order to level it out.

Re: Bought an 87, already looks lowered...

they came stock with 3 or 4 leafs.

chances are if it was a work truck the rear springs are just tired.

and every truck wears differently. everyone asks if my 2.2 S10 is lifted. its not. ive just had it back and forth between lowered and stock twice and ive replaced suspension components regularly so it stays fresh.

The front of that truck sits about the same as my '85 with 100% stock 25yr old suspension. The back look like it's a little lower, mine has quite a bit of rake to it.

Re: Bought an 87, already looks lowered...

first off you need to take pics on level concrete or asphalt to determine whats going on with it. If you ask Bigblock73 or look on his site he has old dealer brochures that should have the actual height of the truck. Im thinking that its worn suspension parts.. on my old 1986 it sat real low then i put new moog springs in the front and it look like my truck had no motor in it... i had the rear springs re arced and the truck sat great...
if it was an old work truck you dont know how it was abused or what it hauled before you got it so it may be very tired spring wise

Re: Bought an 87, already looks lowered...

Here are the "before" and "after" photos of when I lowered my '87 R10, back in October of 1986.

The truck had about 1500 miles on it when I lowered it:

It's a 4.3L V6, by the way.

To me, the "before" picture looks just like the stance in swb85's pic.
