what a waste.
I was out driving last night(driving back from the salvage yard) when I saw this mint conditions 68-72 short stepside bed being used as a trailer for hauling wood. I took a closer look, the bed had no dents, and the inner part just had surface rust. I asked the guy that owned it, if he was willing to sell it. "Nope", took that off the truck when I bought the truck. He showed me the truck it came off of. 1969 swb 4x4(now has a flatbed), and it was all beat to hell.
He then told me all the tales the truck had been through: its been hit by a tractor, slid it into some trees, haystack fell over on it once. and on and on. Finally we both came to the conclusion that you can do any better than a chevy truck, and then I drove the rest of the way home. |

That reminds me, I spotted a trailer on my way to work made from a short step. It's got a great looking LH side.......with no tire cutout in the fender. I'm gonna leave early and see if I can catch the guy at home to see if it can be bought.

I own a utility trailer with a step bed on it. You wouldn't believe the cancer the bed had and the drivers side fender had been wiped out. I was able to pound out most of the damage, but it wouldn't be worth selling to anyone. Plus I have always wanted a step utility bed.
I really don’t think it is a waist when it’s not good enough to use on a nice truck.

thats true, but when there is no cancer, only a little surface rust, and absolutely no dents, it is a shame to not put a good bed on a truck.
I too have a truckbed trailer, but you couldn't tell the the difference weather it was a 72 or a 73 (rusted and smashed beyond recognition...still holds together) |
