Tires

I don't make to many posts becuse it seems that most of the info I've been looking for was found via a search or the faq.

I haven't been able to find anything specific to 67-72 Stepside Tire fitment. I'm sure it's been discussed and I'm searching on the wrong thing or using the wrong words to search by.

What I'm looking for is any tire fitment info for a 67-72 Stepside. If I recall there is less room in stock form on a stepside when compared to a fleetside.

I'm wanting to run a 325/50 BFG or Nitto Drag Radial out back on a 10" rim and have about 4-5" of drop, but from what I'm finding it just can't happen without tubbing the bed out.

I posted it here as I figured this is where the most people hang out that know the widest tire that can be ran.

Does anyone have any info to confirm this?
Thanks

Re: Tires

i think you have to mini tub it for sure i think it would be way to close prolly rub. just judging by looking at mine not sure though. mine has mini tubs and i am running 12 inch wheels with a 325/50 MT DR and it looks like it would rub if it were not mini tubed.

Thanks, thats what I expected. I'm not against it if that's what it takes, but it does eliminate the possibility of getting sheet goods from Lowes or Home Depot without setting it across the new tubs. My truck is not a show truck it's just a semi-daily driver.

Do you have any pics of your truck or pics of the tubs?
I figure If i'm going to tub it I might as well go clear into the frame rails. My plan thus far is to use repop fleetside wheel tubs and narrow them so they free up the space between the bedside and the frame rail.

This isn't much more expensive than the "trailer fenders" and already have flanges to bolt them in.

Thanks again
Jason

Re: Tires

I ran that exact combo on my stepside ('83) (BFG 325/50/15 on a 15x 10 with 4.5" BS) and it did rub slightly (very slightly) on the fender lip. I had a 6 inch drop with the flip kit. There was plenty of clearance on the inside though. The only difference between my '83 and yours is the fender. I can take measuremets if you want. Not sure if my fenders are wider or bubble out more then the 67-72.

If you could I suspose it would be worth a shot. I measrued from the highest point of the arc of the fender opening and went straight in to the bedside and have about 13.5 to the outside of the fender.

Re: Tires

Mine is 14" using the same points you referenced. I think you can fit the tire in there. Just a matter of getting the correct backspacing. According to BFG the section width is 13" on a 10" rim.

You may be right espeically with a fender roll. Maybe it's worth buying the tires and seeing what fits. I'm also hoping to fit truck rally's, which come in 4, 5 and 5.5 backspace.
Thanks for checking.

MY initial thought is that the 5" backspacing would work. If anything you might need a thin spacer. Here are some pictures of my truck with the 15x10s and BFG 325s.

Re: Tires

Sorry man i dont have any recent pics with the DR's i just relized that.Wild83C10 may be rite it might work with no tubs or mods i was only guessing by looking at it. my truck is also 4 1/2 front drop and 6 1/2 rear drop so it may not be prob for you. but i would definatly do some measuring i will say iv already rubbed my outer sidewall on the outer fender lip but my truck squats pretty good. heres some pics with old tires

newst pic right after new engine/trans and exhaust install

new dart headed 410ci small block

this pic is the oldest exhaust hanging down back then

Thanks, but your truck looks better then mine. What tires are you running now? ET Streets? As you can see the pictures are 5 1/2 years old. Not sure if I've ever had the pictures posted here. Truck has changed since then and is in the process of a big change now.
