BBC Headers?
What headers fit our trucks with BBC, and are good quality? What do you all recommend?

Re: BBC Headers?
I'm looking for a set to but i need them for a sm465 manual transmission also. I have looked for a long time and haven't found anything. I'm hoping for 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 inch primaries and a 3 inch collector.

Re: BBC Headers?
I been looking for at least a 2" primarie. 2.125" would be even better. Has anyone ran those hooker competitions? Im wondering how good the "weld" sealing surface seals up

Re: BBC Headers?
I made the mistake of running some block huggers on my 'Cruiser due to confinement issues. I wish I would have taken the time and dough to go custom. Do your self a favour and at least LOOK at fabbing some custom ones. I know its expensive, but you'll only do it once and pay once. Then you'll get exactly what you want and you'll only have to mod the rest of your exhaust once. This is you baby right?

Re: BBC Headers?
I bought Hooker Comps for a Chevelle, but haven't installed them yet. They have 2" Primaries and 3.5" collectors. They are really close but still hit the frame, with the DIY4x CM. Still working those issues. The welds look really good. I'll let you know.

Re: BBC Headers?
http://dougthorleyheaders.com/produc.../productID/606 This is what I used on my 72K5. They fit after I cut off the "heat riser" tube thingy and I had to remove one of my crossmember "legs" on the passside inorder to route the exhaust tube to the collector. One of the tubes on the pass side is very close to the frame but doesn't touch. Adding a small half moon notch to the frame may be needed for added clearance. The drivers side collecter hangs a bit low too. Tri-Y design is not for High RPM applications. I found this out first hand at the Dyno shop. My power drops off the face of the earth around 4400 RPM. No big deal for me as my build is idel to 5K RPM so my engine won't see that high of a RPM, not on pourpose anyway hahaha If I had to buy heders again I think I would try to get Hedmens to work. I loved them on my SBC and fit nice and high away from trail obsticals. So far so good though... Anyway thats my story PS ~ the price has gone up alot! I think I paid 380-400 range on 2004, if I remember correctly...

Re: BBC Headers?
Here's a link to a page on my website about the headers I'm using - Dynomax Cermacoated headers, part number 86022, designed for the 67-87 BBC 2WD. The headers for 73-87 BBC 4WD would not work.

There's a number of factors here and that's why you can't find a conclusive answer. What crossmember are you using? Have you moved your engine? Manual tranny? Etc., etc. I bought the Hooker 2455s expecting a drop in header. But, had all kinds of clearance issues on my DIY4x crossmember. I'm modifiying the frame mounts for the crossmember to make them work. |

Re: BBC Headers?
Those would be what I'm using. From what I've read, they'll work with factory crossmember and motor mounts. But, tend to have clearance issues on aftermarket crossmembers / motor mounts, like my DIY4x crossmember.
