My 71 Cheyenne has a black border around the grill molding and black around the headlights. The moldings in all of the pictures I've seen so far are plain polished aluminum with no black. Did some come with the black or is this something the PO did to it?
The wide aluminum molding on the tailgate is just polished aluminum with wood grain but I've seen pictures of twin black stripes above and below the wood grain on some. Anybody know what's correct?

that is correct for the front grille surround on a 71...as for the rear panel if it had woodgrain it should have black above and below it as well.

All the replacement grills (GM and aftermarket ) are setup for 72 trucks if you want the stripe back you will have to put it there. To do this get a red scotch brite pad and scuff the section, use a quality etch primer and krylon 1651 (I think) semi gloss black and spray. Works great and holds up very well.

Ok, Thanks. So from what I gather, the 71 should have black on the grill?
Just want to make sure.

yes 71's came with black outline on the outter grill shells from the factory .
