Cruise Control?

Now that I have my '67 C20 dialed in and running good, I'm thinking about adding an aftermarket cruise control. Who has done this and what type did you use?
I'm running a small block with a 700r4 trans and 4:56 locker rear end.

Re: Cruise Control?

A guy in my hometown who customizes trucks installed a full cruise unit out of a similar year (1967-1972 I assume) Chevrolet car into his 1971 shortbox C-10 that looks just as FACTORY as I would ever imagine! I have been wondering if anyone else could chime in on that idea or parts needed to make it look like it was always there.

Re: Cruise Control?

Mine has cruise. It looks like a dealer add on from when the truck was new. I'll snap some pics of it shortly. I have had is disconnected for a while since the diaphragm is toast and my speedo cable was bouncing. I have no idea how this info will be helpful to you but there it is.

The cable with the white end is from the cruise.

Re: Cruise Control?

OhOneWS6- that's exactly like the same setup I just found in a junkyard on a 72, which has been believed was a 73-74 only setup, but I still think this has to be a 72 dealer installed unit as well. Trevor

Re: Cruise Control?

I purchased an Audiovox aftermarket system from JC Whitney for less than $100 quite a few years ago. It works good. I do have to disconnect it this time of year to make room for my underhood hydro pump for my plow but since I don't drive the truck on the road in the winter (salt) that doesn't bother me having it disconnected.

I really like having cruise control for longer trips.

I don't have any photos spicifically of the cc unit on this computer but I have a few from unrelated posts. You can barely see the control unit I hung knee-knocker style under my dash and the ball chain piece on my carb that is held by vacuum when I turn it on.

That's cool that you have seen another one just like it. My guess would be it was installed on a 72 year model truck after the 73 units came out. Maybe someone returned to the dealer at a later date or, like I did with my 07, it was purchased after the next model year was already on the lots. Pretty cool either way.

Re: Cruise Control?

Back in the day, the "Worlds Largest Store" had an auto center. It was Sears, okay? I was laid off from the job I eventually had to retire from but Sears was hiring and I needed a job. This was in '76. They sold and installed an aftermarket cruise control that attached to the turn signal lever...piggyback style. I'm sure you "older" folks will remember them.

You need to be a paying member to have a wtb ad. Also, there are several different styles of original cruise systems for these trucks. The style WS6 has is only for 72-74'. There were others for 67-70, and 71-72. Trevor
