Removing tension from the leaf springs..help

I am going to take off the rear leaf springs and would like to know where I should jack it up to remove the tension from the leafs. I have a 75' with the 8 leafs that sit on top of the axle.

Thanks

there really isnt any tension of the springs. put jackstands under the frame and the springs will hang. then just unbolt them.

If the axle is still bolted to the leafs, you need jackstands under the axle as well...otherwise it will fall to the ground when the leafs are unbolted...and could possibly injure anyone under it or around it.

Re: Removing tension from the leaf springs..help

I already unbolted the rear bolt that connects the hanger to the shackle and the leaf spring shot up and is resting on the bottom of the bed. I loosened up the front bolt and there is too much tension to remove the bolt.

There seems to be a lot of tension on the leafs maybe because they sit on top of the axle? I do have jack stands holding the rear of the truck up under the axles.

Jack it up on the frame. Not the axle

You need to remove the axle first...or use jackstands under the axle and frame.

I would jack the truck up first by the axle...place the frame on jackstands...then lower the axle some, and place it on jackstands.
