What year did 16" 6 lug wheels start?

We just got an 86 for plowing, with 6 lug 15" wheels. Would like to go to 16s, as all our other trucks hxve 16s, and we seem to end up with a lot of good used 16s. I know the later ones went to 16s, are the hub center holes different?
What years shoud we look for when going to the junk yards??
We want mainly steel wheels.
Thanks Don

Thanks on the 88.
Anyone know if the hub center openongs are big enough for older hubs??
How about the back space/offset??

I think the bolt pattern is right on newer wheels, but the center hub hole is too small. You could get some aftermarket steel wheels pretty cheap though.

88-98 2wd stock 5x5s were still 15", although the 2000 "Tahoe Limited" kept the old body style and had 16" 5x5 wheels, but those are the only ones I know of in 16".
