Question Hydra-Boost

I was wondering if you guys know where I can get a Hydra-Boost(edit for spelling). Someone stole the one out of my 1 Ton 454 truck. They even took the powersteering pump.

I can't seem to find one out here.

Thanks guys.

Re: Hydra-Boost

No local salvage yards out there? That would be the only place I can think of that you could get everything at one place for a decent price.

I have one I haven't checked yet. Do you have any idea what they would go for? Could I just swith it over to Vacuum Booster? The truck is a 10,000 GVW Camper Special with the Dana 70 rear. I know the Hydra-Boost is better but if I can't find one I will be stuck for a while.

Re: Hydra-Boost

if it had hydraboost brakes, chances are it had a diesel in it from the factory...if it doesn't have a diesel anymore, I don't see why you would need hydraboost brakes...someone correct me if I'm wrong

Nope. The Big Blocks came with this type of braking system. Not all Big blocks but many did.I have had 2 454 1979 trucks with the Hydra-Boost. The truck I have now is an original 454/400 truck.

Re: Hydra-Boost

well, like the diesel if it came with the hydraboost brakes because of the 454 and no longer has the 454, is the hydraboost needed...

Re: Hydra-Boost

I think it has more to do with the tonnage. I thought most 1 ton's came with hydra boost to help with heaver loads. at any rate. I would look some for a hydra boost first as I think it would be easier to just bolt in then buy and convert to a PB set up. I would imagine you would loose some braking performance......?

It is still a 454/400 combo.

Re: Hydra-Boost

I'm thinking Astros had it too, check to see if anything in the yard has a 350 diesel in it,altho the powersteering pump is different.

Re: Hydra-Boost

You can buy reman ones just about anywhere. Don't waste your time putting on a used one. Its too much work just to find out it does not work and have to take it back. We sell reman ones from Cardone for just over $150.00 with a warrantee so that will give you an idea on price

Depends on the bracket that is on your truck they used two of them
