looking for a cam kit
Im looking for a mild cam kit for a 350. Correct me if im wrong but i've heard of of cam kits including everything from cam, lifters, and valve springs. Has anyone ever heard of such as this?
I'm looking for a mild cam, but something that will still give me a lopey idle. If anyone can give me some spec's to go by that would be great. Thanks alot. |

Re: looking for a cam kit
don't know much about cam kits , but I will say that to get a lopey idle you have to get your duration up around 230 degrees & up.
Ihave a 224 intake & 230 exhaust duration & have a choppy idle , not a very lopey one . Put a cam in your engine just to get a good lope & yoyu better have the heads --displacement etc. to match itg or you will be sacrificing performance for the sound . I' m like most of you here > there 's nothing like the sound of a lopey engine . |

Re: looking for a cam kit
and you can get any cam in a "kit"
a good kit will have all of the hard parts except the vavles. keepers, retainers, shims, springs, lifters. |

Re: looking for a cam kit
Call Comp Cams cam help line and tell them what you want and they will ask you a ton of questions to get you a cam grind that is right for what you want and how your truck it put together.
Every decent cam manufacturer will have a list of suggested parts that need to go with their cams with options for upgraded parts. Comp has a great web site for seeing all of this.

Re: looking for a cam kit
ok well i will keep all those things in mind.
im in the very begining stages of the restoration on my truck and still havent even found a good foundation engine yet. when i do, it will be rebuilt and i didnt know whether it would be cheaper for me to buy parts and let the shop put them in with the rebuild or just order the parts through the shop and let them handle everything. any tips on what to do? |

Re: looking for a cam kit
Most machine shops don't sell enough name brand cams to get the better pricing from the manufacturer.
I know with my machine shop I can get a good brand name cam much cheaper though Jeg's or Summit but things like rings, bearings, gaskets, oil pumps etc.. they are a wash so I just get them from the machine shop. Check your machine shops pricing vs. Jeg's / Summit to make sure you can't save a bunch of money by buying the parts yourself.
