block heater question

I got a '98 Jimmy with a factory installed block heater. We bought the truck used and I know the block heater was used by the previous owner. It's on a timer to come on for two hours before going out to start the truck in the morning. My question is when the heater is plugged on, will the coolant temp register on the gauge? And what temp will it heat it to?
I know some diesel engine block heaters keep the engine around 110 degrees. The factory shop manual doesn't say much other than how to install one, nothing specific about it otherwise.

Re: block heater question

Your stock gauge will show the temp when the key is on, and no 2 heaters will heat an engine to the same temp.

Re: block heater question

it wont get it warm enough to show on the gauge. IIRC a 400 watt will raise it 70*
