shoulder belts in a 75????

This Chevy 75 pickup I bought had no shoulder belts or even the mount to put them. I really don’t want to think about welding anything into the upper posts and having to put a hole in the headliner trim. Right now it does not even have the lap belts in it so before I hunt for . It was mentioned to me that an early 70’s blazer had lower mounting points for the shoulder harness. Does anyone here have any experience with putting those blazer belts in the pickups. I wanted to know before I try to locate a pair of belts. I would be willing to ‘add’ a mount below the trim. It’s not just a matter of safety here. I hate that the cops stop me NOW for not having a shoulder belt on when im driving my 73 Pinto. The truck ‘looks’ newer than the pinto and with the arrest-me-red color I’ll be getting stopped all the time hoping they can get some fine money. They are bad about that here. thanx, crossy

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

Dave, my lap belt only '73 has the provision for shoulder belts in the pillar...the trim has no hole, but there is definately a capture nut welded to the pillar. Might want to pull the trim to make sure, there should be one there.

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

funny you say that, and i will but i forgot to mention that there is already nice speakers mounted there.

I figured the nut was removed if it was there. it's easy enough to look though.

hahahahahah

If dodge made a non ugly, comfortable seat in the right color that would look good in a fully restored 75 C10....maybe it would be considered.

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

Shoulder belts have to mount above shoulder level or in a crash they will crush you towards the seat bottom. The trim has to be modified or just leave it alone. mounting seatbelts in any position but optimal is asking for death or mutilation of one's self. You could also get a piece of trim out of a newer truck to replace yours if you just don't wanna alter the original stuff.

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

^^ exactly, they have to be mounted well above the shoulder. if they are not and you are in a accident it will compress your spine and can cause you to be paralyzed. in a case like this, it is about safety, then looks.

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

I had a 75 that didn't have any shoulder belts, cop gave me a ticket for not wearing it. Told him the truck never came with them, didn't listen. I know the judges here, so got a printout and showed it to him, they threw it out...

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

Yeah my 76 doesent have them either been pulled over one time cop got pissed and walked off muttering somthing to himself. I always wondered what I would have to do If they ever gave me a ticket but then I think seat belts should be a personal choice not a law. Yes I have flown though the winsheild before landed on the hood of a my brothers 70 ford still should be personal choice.

My 75 C20 does not have any provisions for shoulder style seat-belt. Only lap belts are provided. I have no trim or speakers in my cab - GM simply did not put anything there that could be used to anchor shoulder style belt.

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

Umm, another seat is not an option at this point. is there an aftermarket alternative. i see street rod seat belts for sale at places. has anyone tried them in an early truck. Of course this assuming that i DO have the correct upper mounting point.. If so someone tell me what they bought and from where. thanx.

There should be a round plug covering up the hole. It will be painted over, but should be there. My 73 had this, and did not have shoulder belts or trim.

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

The only thing I would worry about is the distance from the seatbelt provision, and the hole that was cut to fit the speaker that was installed. If they are in close proximity, I would be slightly concerned with the strength of that area should you be involved in a serious accident.

Re: shoulder belts in a 75????

Yehh, the captured nut is still there in tact. since it has buckets it should be fairly forgiving on the size of the retractors so anyone have experience with aftermarket belts. i just sold a nice set of the factory black belts from an 86. oh well. thanx , crossy
