Will that trick work for both open diff, LSD and spool setups?

Durring the inspection I was told the tranfer case fluid looked pretty clean and it was good for level but I honestly haven't checked it personally since...

Is the 4spd trany supposed to use gear oil or ATF?
Currently there's gear oil, but with no owners manual and being new to a standard, I wasn't sure if this was the recomended type...

It will work with an open diff, spool or anything. Just make sure you mark the tire that spins if it is an open diff. The 4 sp box should have gear oil in it. Only the 208 ( transfer case ) will have ATF.

Im guessing that the gears haven't been checked. For the record there should be numbers stamped on the ring gear. if you have numbers like 41 - 11 you would divide the big number by the small and come up with 3.73s
