Ya like your Hickey's on the side?... What about the top?
As for winches, it seems the 'ol Sidewinder leads the way in these here forums, and now that I'm finally putting my winch back together and doing a little research, I thought I'd get some input.
I've only seen the same Hickey that I have on one other post. Looking at an old Ramsey manual, it seems mine is almost identical, except for the electrical box AND mine is labeled by HE. So my question is this, was the winch made by Ramsey (or Sperry/Vickers?) and Hickey sold it as their own? Or vice-versa? Also, if Hickey's other is the "Sidewinder", what the hell is mine called?? The "Topwinder"? ;-) (btw, just found a side-ways one on CL yesterday... getting it shipped to me!!) Here's mine, these 3 are when I pulled it last year...

I bet it is made by Ramsey or another "winch" company.Your`s is just a winder,I`d say. I like Ramsey best of all the winch companies.

I believe Ramsey made winches under other names, I had an old Viking winch years ago and it took Ramsey parts..even looked identical.

just wait till you find out what happens when you dont use a good enough mount for those type winches, the carnage is awesome to say the least.

Interesting. No Sperry-Vickers on it anywhere? Motor looks the same as on my SW'r though.

Re: Ya like your Hickey's on the side?... What about the top?
According to the caution label below, the sidewinder was manufactured by Sperry-Vickers. Sperry was huge, buying numerous companies, like Remington Rand, New Holland and others. They were heavily involved in military applications and flight/marine systems as well. BIG player in the business world apparently, along with hostile takeovers... funny, I've only seen their name on and related them with farm equipment!

Motor is probably by Prestolite Corp.

May have one available in the next few months, not a sidewinder but like the one above.

Re: Ya like your Hickey's on the side?... What about the top?
I bought a truck with a winch like this but mine is a PTO powered model Ramsey 200-422 something. Look at the web site under industrial most are the same except different power input options. Some were hydraulic some were PTO yours looks modified like some one took the T-case pto drive off and hooked it to a starter in one unit and slapped on some new covers with a new name. Ill post some pics of mine when I can.
This looks similar http://www.ramsey.com/industrial/man...tml#industrial |
