Saddle Tank Doors
I have a question for you guys/gals. I recently dropped the rusty old aux gas tanks from my 70 and now am trying to figure out the best way to remove/hide the filer doors from the side of the bed. I dont want them there at all and figured id ask the experts which way to go. Do I remove them, patch with sheet metal or just try to fill over them etc. Thanks

remove them cut and fit metal patches and weld and finish then paint

weld in patch panels, Efabman has excellent vids on this type of work. If you've never done any sheetmetal repair such as this I would practice on something you're not concerned with warping because it certainly can however if you stitch it together slowly and keep it cool also grind the welds slowly and dont try to do it all at once so as not to overheat the panel you should be able to do this, or do you have a buddy that can weld (Mig). I found a post over on the 60-66 portion of this site where a fellow has successfully done a J-B Weld type repair on several areas one being a smoothed cowl panel and a gas tank hole fill in the cab after relocating the gas tank you might try that.
