Hello everyone.

I was a member a couple of years ago with a '69 Burb that was lowered and I sold it. Well I am back and I just bought a '68 c10 from a guy in STL, MO.

It really was in decent shape from what I have seen when I was out searching. At least it runs. Right now I am considering putting in a Vortec engine with accessories and complete wire harness, fuse box etc.

I just PM'd Custom 68 (Dave) who has a vortec in his yellow '68. He installed himself and explained a little about what was done. He got a painless wire harness and fabricated his own motor mounts, and shortened his drive shaft.

I plan on finding a 4L60e tranny or use the 200-4r tranny I already have.
Is there anything else you guys think that I will need?
How about the fuel pump? Is that on the block or in the tank?

Hey welcome to the best boards around from MT. Glad to have you around. Nice looking truck looks like its in pretty decent shape to start out with at least.

Welcome back. Vortec fuel pumps normally located inside the tank. No stock provisions on the block without mods to the internals. Most just add an electric fuel pump.

I have gotten quite a few compliments on it just like it is. I can't wait to start my tranformation on it!

I just looked at a 5.3L Vortec from a 99 Silverado. I heard it run, so its good to go. I am getting the engine, accessories, wire harnes, and fuse boxes all for $600 bucks. I could pick up the tranny for another $200 but it is 4x4. My understanding that the 4x4 4L60e has a different tail shaft and will not work?

I also plan to get the whole dropped spindle disc brake conversion kit from CPP. But, I don't know if I want to do the lowered springs or the bags. Or do the springs now and bags later.

It seems like there is a few other trucks from MO.
I don't know about you guys, I had a car club in STL. We would do a couple of car cruises during nice weather. We would sometime hit the back roads to one of the local winers (mostley for the wives/GFs) and then head back to town. Good way to get together.
We also got together with the guys (z club) down in Springfield Mo.
So, is that something you guys do?

I've never done the club stuff and actually am getting ready to sell out of the 68 and 69 I have, but I'd be up for a run sometime.

as far as club stuff the folks locally from the board are just like hanging out with a club. Sammy and I hang out alot at different shows and cruizes and every once and a while DubDubU. There are several others from around the area we go and hang out with from around the area such as springfield and jeff city, and have traveled to meet other members from other states at board meets. check out the midwest or missouri sections to see whats going on around the area.

I travel through St Peter's quite a bit for work, (actually be through there on Monday). As firedog mentioned we have several get togethers around the state and you will not find a better group of people than the ones on this site.

I have yet to be disappointed...

Best of luck with the project, and if I can recommend anything, I would recommend ECE (Early Classic Enterprises) for the static drop kit and disc brake upgrade. Check out my build thread in my signature (Project Blank Slate) to see the install of their 4.5/6" drop kit with 6-lug disc brake upgrade.
