Re: Speedwarning Complete.... with Video

Doug:I took the speedminder out tonight and tested the continuity as you described(i think!) anyways, I hook a lead to the white wire that comes off the speed face(back side) and grounded the other lead to the speedo base(the metal housing that holds the odometer) and nothing!. Then I touched the needle nib that is fixed to the s.w. white arrow and I had continuity without moving the speedo (red)needle. I was still hooked to the white lead-grounded the other lead to the odometer housing and moved the orange needle and nothing-no continuity. I then tried for continuity with the spring under the orange needle-nothing. Is there anything else to check? I may have to take you up on your offer and have you check it out but if I can fix it myself, I will maybe learn more...by the way you did a great job on your dash set!.....thanks Steve

Steve, you just pay shipping and I would be happy to look at it for free. It's got to be something small.

'bout time for me to head to bed, but I'll think more about your problem and post tomorrow.

before I go, can you remove the speedo from the tins so you'll have it in your hand tomorrow?

Re: Speedwarning Complete.... with Video

Doug-I got it working thanks to your post......I forgot to ground the speedo base-once that happened the buzzer worked fine. The next question is: I have a tach dash and a speed warning dash and I want to combine them. Should I use the speed minder dash and cut it for the tach or should I drill the tach dash for the speedminder? How do you get the stud off the speedminder dash? Anything else I should think about? thanks again..Steve

Re: Speedwarning Complete.... with Video

Steve,

I guess it would depend on how original you would want it to look/appear.

With that being said, the speedwarning tin is only original once...... and it's rare in it's own right. A tach tin isn't as rare, so I'd be more inclined to modify a tach tin to include some type of grounding post. Remember, the post has to be completely isolated from the tin. You could simply drill a hole through the tin, place a rubber grommet in the hole, and make your connections that way. That would also mean a bit of modification on the harness ends, but that is a way to do it.

If your going for a factory correct resto, you may take the s.w. tin to a few electronic supply houses and see if they can locate a grounding post?

Good luck and keep in touch!! I want pics when you start your resto!!
