Chris
I just did this exact thing. I took all my bolts. i put em in a thick plastic peanut container with a lid, then i added this fluid.
Evaporust

Its a chemical, non toxic that you jsut let the bolts sit in. Unlike vinegar it doesnt deteriorate the metal. Basically i let em sit for 24 hours.. I would shake the container a bunch here and there to agitate it. 90% of the bolts came out perfect. A few had some left over rust. You can soak it longer if you want. I then rinsed them all off, put them in a cardboard box and painted em.... So far so good....

Go to the auto paint store and get some metal cleaning & condioning DX520 & DX579 comes in quart containers. soak the parts in cleaner over night then soak in the conditioner.

Or, this stuff here everyone says works great and only need to wd-40 after using.

Re: cleaning nuts and bolts

planned to get out on the truck again last night, but thought I blew up my jeep. worked on it last night to find out a bolt had backed out of the torque converter and was hitting a plate. Back in business for the truck this weekend.

Re: cleaning nuts and bolts

So I finally got to play in the garage tonight, here are some pics of the results. I am pretty happy and plan to keep doing this. Questions for those of you that have used this. It says to dip in solution then water then immediately into sealer. I am guessing I should dry them off first? 2nd question my solution was getting very cloudy. I mixed about 2 ounces of solution. Should I pitch it, add more solution, or add more water? Thanks
