long stepside bed?
are there a lot of these out there cuz i have ever seen one that what i was thinking baout putting on my truck will it be hard to find thanks nick

A kid I know has several 67-72 trucks on his place, and he has a 69 step long bed that he is using for a parts truck.
Thats about the 2nd one I've seen.

Have seen lots around these parts, you can pick them up pretty cheap becaus enobody seems to want them. IMO they are not that rare.

I'll chime in on this.
Stepside beds (long and short) are basically the same from late-50's to 1987. That is the bedsides, tailgate, end panel, cross sills, bedwood, skid strips, and hardware are essentially the same. The differences are in the fenders/steps and the mounting locations (holes for bolts to attach). That being said, don't narrow your search to just 67-72 to get the basic components. Once you've got the box, you'll need to locate steps and fenders. Fenders (the ones without the spare cutout) are the same between short and longbed 67-72's (with the obvious exception that 67 fenders do not have the side marker hole). The longbed steps are unique and probably the toughest item to find. I have a set if someone really needs them.

The only production numbers I know on the long step (this is the 127 wheel base..not the 133 one ton) is the '72.
3973 3/4 ton long steps made in 72...and 3328 Longhorns, which we seem to see quite a few of. So they are not rare, just not many being used anymore. |
