my truck is really slow.

its a brand new crate 350. holley dominator intake, edelbrock 600cfm carb, summit block hugger headers, and turbo mufflers.
the damn thing wont even burn the tires. i have the stock '67 rear end. and a 700r4 trans. i dont have my kickdown cable hooked up yet either. i figured i would atleast get a little squeal.
could it be the timing, or do i just not have enough motor?

by the way i have 20 inch rims on it.

hmmm, too much body filler? lol jj, 20's do have a lot of rotating mass but you should still be able to let 'er loose. Uh, what's the width of those rear tires is it possible it's just hooking up real nice? Maybe you could take it to a weigh station and get her weighed, and see is she needs a diet? LOL Can you do a breakstand? what's the stall on the convertor, check to see what your tach says when the tires finally start spinning during the breakstand. I can't think of much right now, where's everyone else?

You have to have your TV cable hooked up on the 700 or you will burn it up quite quickly. If not, you won't have enough line pressure to get the fluid flowing, in turn turning your new 700 into a boat anchor.

Isn't it if you put a mark on your driveshaft spin the rear wheels one revolution and count the number of times the mark on the driveshaft goes around.
IE: if the mark goes around 3 and 3/4 times, its most likely a 3.73 gear ratio. I'm not sure tho, I tested on mine when I had the box off and it worked (I knew it was a 3.73, just wanted to see if the theory was correct) But still, that may have been a fluke...can anyone back me up here?

The stock goodwrench 350 is a low compression/small cam engine. It should be very dependable, but I remember putting one in my 80 burb, and not being too satisfied with the performance.

There's the ever-popular Vortec head swap and cam change that will wake it up. Bolting on a set of Vortec heads with screw-in studs/upgraded valve springs and a small Comp Cams Extreme Energy cam will give you more power, guaranteed.

As was said before - hook up that cable and get it adjusted correctly.
Spinning the tires looks cool, but it makes you go slow.
What tire pressure are you running?
Put some more in there if you want to make smoke - and lose traction.
Did I mention this before? ---- Hook up that cable!
Wish I had the same problem.

i have one in my 72, with stock th350 3.73 posi and edelbrock intake, carb and headers with flowmasters. 28" tires stock

my truck blows my dads 01 pontiac GTP off the line (supercharged v6, 15.0 car) however he does catch up to me after 40-50.

im very happy with my stock engine, takes out my friends 00 silverado with 5.3.

I'll say it again - HOOK UP THE CABLE!!!

Aside from that...if you want some good power, add Vortec heads, a bigger cam, and headers.

As it is...I'm running 15.7's at 86.6 with a Comp Cams 260H, Performer Vortec, HEI, near-stock exhaust, 700R4, and 3.73's. I want to, at the very least, swap the cam for an XE262H, and the ram's horns for headers and an H-pipe...ideally, I also want to swap the bottom end for a 383 or 406.

i am having problems hooking up that cable. i think i need a cable gas pedal. i had to flip the bracket for the kickdown over so it would miss the gas pedal rod. but the kickdown cable wont reach the spot its suppose to hook up at. i guess i will figure something out.

do you have an exhaust sytem or are you running open headers? it wont make torque and youll never break your tires loose without back pressure on that motor. I have a 383 with ported heads and a 650 holley flat tops et cetera that is JUST BARELY filling 1 3/4 in headers and a 2 1/2' h pipe system. Im thinkin of going back to ram horns... Advanceing your timing significantly (20-30 degrees INITIAL advance!!!) can account for that some but you will still burn up valves otherwise destroy the motor. Get it idling smooth and quiet and put a light on your timing. if your much over 16 degrees initial adavance with that cam you probably dont have enough backpressure.

One more time......do get the tv cable set up properly! those 700r4's are very touchy about that, you will lose the trans fast without the cable(ouch). I think a set of 3.73 gears would be a great "bang for the buck" & help the power a bunch. You can add any upgrades the the eng later....hell its fresh, id run it. Good luck, crazyL

Well besides the fact you don't have the tv cable hooked up, which "holley dominator intake" do you have? If it is the single plane strip dominator it will really make that motor a dog. Wrong rpm range for the motor... my crate 350 will smoke the tires as long as you hold the pedal down

It sounds like you need to get your TV cable hooked up too.

If yoiu don't have enough power, a little nitrous will take care of that (Though I'm not a big fan of NO2)

I'd say a head and cam swap would help out quite a bit.

Ok a couple of things.

As had been mentioned before make sure your not running the wrong dominator manifold . If its the strip dominator your'e running the wrong manifold .

Check your gearing. If its 3.07's then c'mon. what do you expect. If you are running decent gearing ala 3.73 to 4.10's with small tires ( under 29 inch tall ) and you still cant break it loose with a reasonably tight stocker motor then you are having other problems.

Cam it! stock cams are beyond worthless for power! make sure to match a cam with the proper intake, gearing, compression and converter though. A edelbrock performer or appropriate clone will work well for the compression you are running.

Hook up the cable ! It won't run right and you'll destroy the transmission if you dont

Ive had a lot of friends and relatives in the motor building biz up to the level of top fuel dragster and that bit about not having enough backpressure in the exhaust system to spin the tires is a bunch of crap-o-la ! Too much pipe will shift your curve up a wee bit but its primarily the cam thats determining the torque curve. You should be OK with up to 1 3/4 inch primaries and all the way up to 3 inch pipes on the way out .
