That tank is know as the blazer tank. Lots have done the swap including me.......well almost and it seems works pretty good. I'm not quite done, still working on the filler but its not that bad of a project to get it in and hooked up.

i think what I am concerned about is some I have seen cost 400 and this one is only 250. curious why it is so much cheaper.

I think you are trying to compare a custom made fuel cell(~$400) to this which is just a replacement gas tank for a 67-72 Chevy Blazer that happens to fit the trucks pretty good. Both the fuel cell and the replacement tank are very safe.

why does nobody use the side frame mount tanks from the later models? will they not work?

My pipes are going to run right next to the tank. Will that be an issue?

Um.... The ones that mount outside the frame rails thus leading to a major law suit against GM?

Or the ones that mount inside the frame rails- there isn't much room in there with the trailing arm suspension.

My poly tank has a sticker on it saying not to run the exhaust closer than 3".

I will be using a steel tank, but im thinking the pipes as they are now will be within 1" of it.

Just wondering about those side tanks, I have two and was planning on using them. Can you elaborate on this lawsuit? If it turns out that they are unsafe, I'll crap can them.

Basically GM got sued because if the truck took a side impact, the tank was going to rupture and then if there was some source of ignition it would cause it to blow. GM settled for a $1000 coupon good on any new GM vehicle to any owner of the effected vehicles.

I have the dealer add-on saddle tanks. I am taking out my tank behind the seat and using these two tanks only. 2 18 gal tanks will be fine. If I get t-boned, then I will worry about a possible explosion then.

yea that is the kind of tank i was talking about. my brother in law has a whole set up he said i could have, but i have never seen anyone use one in our trucks. thats why i was asking if they wouldnt work

Typical mainstream media BS though on these tanks (the regular original GM gas tanks). Either 20/20 or 60 minutes did an expose years ago on these tanks with demonstrations of impacts and big explosions/fires. Only problem with their tests was that they had to mount explosive charges to get the news they wanted. Came out after the fact.

I wasn't arguing that they were as unsafe as the news made them seem. Just that for me, if I'm going to go through the trouble of re mounting my tank, I might as well make it as safe as possible. I still own one truck with a side mount tank on it and its staying right where its at.
