HEI , help

i posted on the wrong board..

Ok I got the timing setup dam near perfect. I changed out the module, and coil. And still not a pop or backfire??? I'm not getting spark.....what can be doing this. Is there something else on the HEI i need to replace? any help would be great. thanks. I am getting power through the coil.......

Have you tested the pickup coil yet? You can test it with an ohm meter and with the leads disconnected it should read somewhere around 800 ohms. There is not much else in the distributor.

i always test an hei before i put it in a truck, just clip a wire from the bat, to the power terman. and one someplace on the shaft to a ground. stick a wire and one plug on the cap, ground the plug and give it a spin..... lots easier to do this when its out of the truck!

my bet is on the pickup coil as well..

theres not much to an hei dist. gut it and redo all of it(wiring anyways)make sure you have clean points, and contacts on the top where the coil goes. That spring has to fit through the hole in the rubber grommet otherwise no sparky sparky. Also theres the plug that has the arm that wraps around to the screw for the coil. make sure theres no dielectric grease on taht stuff.

i wish object from cars chould feel pain........it's reading at 810ohms...... any more ideas?

Mine had a bad wiring harness. One of the four wires was loose in the clip. Make sure they are all tight - oh yeah, don't plug the ignition wire on to the tach connection (embarrassing). Good luck, Scott
