Steering Column?

I am considering going ahead with my th350 install and have the crossmember, trans and torque converter. If I go with a column from one of the aftermarket places so I could have tilt wheel, would it be impossible (or even stupid to ask) if I could use my original wheel?

I guess the same question would apply to if I used a tilt column from a 71-81 van.

Re: Steering Column?

Your factory wheel will work on the van column, don't know about the aftermarket column though.

Re: Steering Column?

Do the years I have listed 71-81 sound right on the correct year to fit our trucks? There is a guy with a 70 one he wants to sell, but I suspect it might not work.
Does anyone have an interchange manual that might tell?

Re: Steering Column?

Regarding the aftermarket columns, I have an Ididit Retrofit Series column and it is splined correctly to accept my original steering wheel.

Re: Steering Column?

IF i recall pretty much any gm truck column is the same spline 60-87ish and as far as I know the van columns fit fairly well

Re: Steering Column?

I would think that one from a '67-'72 would be a better fit than one from '73 and up. Either one is doable, but the earlier ones are closer in shape and size of the '60-'66 columns.
